Workout Motivation

The weekends of my life used to be filled with; chill, Netflix, unhealthy treats and scrolling through Instagram. I would often come across; all these beautiful people with sexy physiques and killer fitness levels, which lead me to wishes and daydreams of having that physique and fitness level.
Desires for this new life, someone else’s life, became my obsession and consumed my thoughts, however I could never bring myself to achieve this desire. This got me thinking about the, ‘Why ‘and lead me to the conclusion, that millions of people like myself possess such daydreams but can never turn it into action, due to a lack of motivation and therefore, end up wasting away their hours of each day. This article aims to enlighten one, about the popular most talked about topic, ‘Motivation.’

In order to holistically understand this popular, most talked about topic, ‘motivation’, one needs to examine; the various forms of motivation, its true meaning, the reasons behind motivation, the methodology required to get motivated and stay motivated and its numerous positive benefits on one’s life.  One has to remember that; this dream of having this amazing physique and fitness level can become a reality, once it becomes a goal and this goal can be achieved, through getting and staying motivated. This most popular topic can also be applied to all forms of one’s life, as motivation is the root of all being.

These desires of: having the most sexy and desirable physique; being fit enough to complete a triathlon or just being in good health and shape, therefore become ones goals in life. This leads one to ask, the most frequently asked question, how do I get motivated? The answer would be a simple set of steps, yet the journey as one comes to realise, is one of endurance and sheer torment.  This quest for motivation and attaining that killer physique leads to one; purchasing and downloading every self-help book one can find, until they are broke or have run out of storage, in search of the perfect method for getting motivated.

In constant yearning for that better life, one discovers a magical secret from all these self-help books, called, ‘the law of attraction.’ This law in its simplest form states; what you think you will attract. Even though the motivation to achieve ones goals work hand in hand with this law; the attainment of such goals, such as that sexy physique, cannot simply be achieved through thoughts alone; actions need to be done in conjunction with these positive affirmations, in order for the attainment of said physique or goals to be realised.

After the reality of what it takes to get motivated to achieve ones goals sets in, one then begins their long patient journey with hope and excitement by; firstly googling motivational fitness quotes and then taking the time to read and understand each one in depth. Nike- “Just do it”, usually becomes the pinnacle quote, that leads one to simply ditch the couch and chill, for a gym membership and a new healthy lifestyle.

A few last treats for old time sake and tons of research later, one firstly imprints these positive affirmations on places easily accessible to the eye. Secondly one begins to seek out; a nutritionist or a nutrition plan and a personal trainer or a workout routine, thanks to the Holy Grail known as, google. Once the plans are all ready to be set into motion, one then does the act that everybody longs for, shopping. Eagerly with their lengthy compiled lists of hope; they seek out the healthiest of groceries and the coolest of gym wear, not particularly paying attention to the costs of these items. Upon returning from their adventurous shopping trip; they then empty the cupboards and refrigerators, making sure to be-rid the evil known as junk food that occupy their space and replace such with, their newly stocked up healthy eats.  Finally to end off their eventful day, hungrily they cook up a storm, making sure they thoroughly follow their nutrition plan to the tee. After that gorgeous meal or so it would seem; disappointed from the taste, one ends off the night with a health tea and eventually retires to bed.

With the arrival of the next morning of hope; one awakes jovially and starts the day off with these positive mantras, to acquire the motivation for the day, in order to begin to achieve their listed goals. One then begins to partake in their normal morning routine, with the exception of two newly added items, that being; a healthy, nutritious, protein filled breakfast, coupled with multivitamins and supplements, known as heroes for ones living cells; a pre-workout and a trip to the gym, to begin their daunting workout plan.  During their first gruelling workout, where grinding and pumping is not at its best, thoughts of their mantras such as; “When you can’t do it, just break your limits, ignore the voices inside your head and push your body to the limit.”- Ronnie Coleman, get them through the gruel successfully. Exhausted and in agony, they return home, freshen up and continue with the rest of their day as per usual.
After enjoying the success, of a positive healthy first day of their journey to fitness, their motivation is at its highest. Oozing with confidence, they are sure in themselves that they can attain their set out goals. One then realises that: these actions in conjunction with these positive affirmations, will allow the universe to reward them with positive outcomes; they realise that by following this way of life, they will attract their goals and this type of realisation and positive mind-set, is what keeps their motivation to attain their fitness goals, burning bright throughout the entire week.  Bob Proctor once said, “Thoughts become things, if you see it in your mind; you will hold it in your hand.” This statement reiterates the fact that, actions in conjunction with thoughts need to be done, in order to hold your goals in your hand.

The rest of the week, a new healthy routine is formed and followed religiously, the day begins with: positive mantras, kick-starting ones motivation to attain their goals; then moves on to a healthy breakfast, coupled with supplements and multivitamins; transitioning into a gruelling workout out at the gym, with a freshen up for the endurance of the normal day; ensuring each meal up until dinner time, is one of health and nutrition; ending the exhausting day with a cup of healthy tea and the very needed beauty sleep.  This routine leaves one, feeling confident that at the end of the fitness journey, success will be attained and a new way of life will have emerged.
Upon the end of the successful, gruelling week: exhausted from religiously sticking to this new way of life; ones motivation to achieve fitness begins to dwindle and as a result, the feeling of a needed reward creeps in, along with the excitement of the weekend, thus leading one to enjoy the small evil cheat they feel they deserve.  This evil cheat, turns into a weekend feast of champions, resulting in said person completely falling of the tracks, with the comforting thought of, “it’s not a train smash, I’ll jump back on the wagon next week, as a new week will be a new me.” However one fails to realise that; come next week their entire balance will be in shambles, due to the plunging off the wagon weekend, that has come to pass. One then realises the awful effects of the; weekend of evil cheats, which leaves one with great disappointment and uncertainty, as to whether or not they are capable of completing their fitness journey and attaining their goals.

With these feelings of uncertainty and disappointment; one begins the new week, trying their best to get back into their routine of motivation.  They go through the motions the same as they did once before although, this time it is not done with confidence and hope but rather with agony and reluctance. Each time: they read their positive mantras, they question if it really is realistic to believe in it; they have their healthy nutritious meals, they sigh with sadness at the preparation and taste of the meals; they grind at the gym, they complain with negativity and agony, making sure that tears consume them.

With the end of the daunting week setting in, many questions consume one’s mind, questions such as: “Will I be able to pull through this? Will I attain the fitness goals that I set out for myself? Will I have the sexy physique I always desired so much? Can I stick to this eating plan?  Will I fall of the wagon this weekend? Can I manage these gruelling workouts and  become better at it? Will I be able to grind and pump at maximum potential? Will I be a failure and quit?” These thoughts and questions lead one to; doubt their ability to achieve their fitness goals, leaving their motivation at an all-time low. This leads one to the greatest conflict they have ever faced; to give up or not to give up and keep going. Unsure of their new decision, they ponder and analyse hoping to come to a conclusion…
