5 Rules of Gym Etiquette

Gym Etiquette

Re-rack your weights
No one wants to re-rack at the gym for you. You might be someone who is using 45’s on the weight rack and someone might not be able to use that same amount of weight. They might not even be strong enough to move the weights. Be courteous and re-rack after you are finished.
Clean up after yourself
Be polite and wipe down the bench after you use it. No one wants to use your sweaty bench after you are finished. Use a towel and take care of it or use the paper towels that most gyms provide with spray to clean up after.

Re-rack in the proper place
When re-racking your weights put them in the proper place. This happens often with dumbbells. It’s not easy when someone has a large heavy dumbbell that they are going to put away only to find that someone put the small dumbbell in the wrong place because they were too lazy to walk down the rack and place it in the proper spot.

Wear Deodorant
No one wants to be working out next to a stinky person. We all sweat and that’s what the gym is for to exercise but if you haven’t showered and/or you don’t wear deodorant it doesn’t make for a pleasant experience for those close to you. Cleanliness is important.

The gym is not a club
The gym is not the place to start trying to have conversations with strangers. This is not the bar or club where you try to pick up women. Sure conversations happen and strangers meet but don’t make it your intention to start talking to the cute girl or guy you saw. What is especially rude is starting by telling them how they are lifting incorrectly. Chances are they could know how to lift better than you do.

There you have it five simple rules to follow when using the gym which make it a more pleasant experience for everyone involved.
