BOOST LOGIC

This is the first of a series of updates on my current build. I want to discuss some of the parts we use in our community and the challenges faced. I have no skin in the game and do not profit off of any of it. These are my experiences and your mileage may vary. I will also add, I’m very particular and want things done right. It annoys me when they aren’t.
I was in the process of moving from a hybrid based turbo system to a full frame. If you’re an enthusiast like me, you always want more power no matter what power you have. That was the case here. I had tasted of the Pure700 and then a hybrid put together by Pure Turbos that was based off the GTX3582 core. That turbo had come apart after less than 4,000 miles. More on that in another post.

Because I was moving to a full frame I needed more flow from the back half of the exhaust. I thought of just cutting apart the stock exhaust and taking the pancake section out creating more flow. I knew that would cost me quite a bit just for fab work so I decided to go to a titanium exhaust as it would also save weight. This was approximately 3 years ago.

There were a few brands on the market. Boost Logic seemed like a good fit and decent quality exhaust. I could only judge from pictures but then I heard one in person on an RS3 at TX2K in 2022. It was loud but sounded good. I decided I wanted it quieter than what Boost Logic sounded like. So I had it modified with two resonators in the mid pipes.

The whole process of getting the exhaust after ordering and getting it modified took almost an entire year. My builder isn’t a welder and the people he worked with were not fast or efficient. The first guy he tried kept telling him it was going to be next for several months and it never happened. The guy who actually did the work, took my car in April of 2023 and didn’t get it done until July, 3 months to put some resonators in and make a custom intake, more on the intake later.

The car needed tuning, I started a new job and couldn’t take off time as before, so I didn’t see the final result until May of 2024. When I saw it, I noticed it wasn’t even on the rear tips coming out. They weren’t even on how they set. I asked if it wasn’t adjusted side to side. That was the limit of the adjustment. Turns out the tips are not even the same length.

When the car got up on the rack I was able to look at it more closely. The welds were clean but not all the way through, the portion by the new resonators looked decent but that was the custom portion. For some reason the fabricator my builder used necked it down from the 3.5 inch down pipe to a 3 inch section to spread into 3 inch dual pipes and resonators. From there it slipped into the Boost Logic portion.

I drove the car around all summer of 2024. My truck was down, It broke down almost as soon as I returned home. More on that soon. Every once in a while with my dad in the car (extra weight), the 4 inch section of the exhaust would hit the suspension and scrape/bang. I wasn’t happy with the tips and with the weld quality. About the only thing I actually liked was the sound and weight. So in August I found a local fabricator. He looked at it and told me what he thought it needed. Titanium is expensive so I had to save as my truck cost me a lot to fix several things on it.

In December I dropped off my car at the fabricators. In 3 weeks he took the back half apart to reuse the mufflers and completely rebuilt a custom titanium exhaust. It is now a dual from the down pipe back. It sounds nearly the same but doesn’t scrape, the titanium is semi polished and it’s even and cleanly welded. I also got my own customized tips.
That brings me to another thing I didn’t know as I’d never been able to see into the pipes. I was able to look at it at my fabricators because he had it in pieces as I went to visit him. The valves close the main portion of the exhaust while opening up the bypass. I thought it just opened both. Boost Logic set it up so the 3 inch pass through mufflers are the straight portion of the piping and the bypass is 1.75 inch. That would make sense if they were larger.

My fabricator noticed this but didn’t change it. He said he would have done the muffler portion on the outside bypass and when valves open then it go on a straight through shot. He told me he figured Audi knew better than he did so he left it the way it was. It was Boost Logic that doesn’t realize the best way to setup an exhaust. I’m leaving it alone as 1.75x2 is 3.5 inch, as much volume as my down pipe.

Overall I was not at all happy with the quality or the setup of the Boost Logic. I have not seen the 485 Fabrication in person and so can’t make an official recommendation but in their pictures they look good. The route the piping correctly and use Ticon titanium. The welds look good and clean and quality. They are more expensive than the Boost Logic but you buy once cry once.

Lessons learned.


I’d never buy a Chinese titanium exhaust again. Their titanium is rough and not finished well. Judging from this example they machine weld it all and that won’t be welded through. It takes time to weld it through.

Two, I’d shop around better. I’d go and see exactly what I’m getting and look it over closely either out of the car or the car on a rack. I’d also hear it because that is a very subjective experience for everyone, how it sounds, is there drone, if so how much. Can you live with the level of drone, all issues that need to be considered.

Three, if I’m not happy with the final choice, then I wouldn’t customize it. I’d either be happy with the sound and feel of the exhaust I got, or just go the custom route. By the time I found all the issues with the exhaust it was too late. It had already been modified. I couldn’t then sell it so I was forced to go the custom exhaust route.

Finally, it cost me two exhausts. I should have just gone the custom route as that’s what I have now. I own a full custom titanium exhaust and spent money on it three times making it more expensive than it would have been if I just went full custom at the beginning.

You live and learn and I’m just trying to help others evaluate your own builds prior to buying or fabricating. Take my experience and don’t learn the hard way.
